Karen Rulifson, President

Karen brings more than 18 years of leadership experience to Monarch Leadership. Her experience spans from being the leader for Target’s global Learning & Development organization to retail management, supply chain & inventory control, consulting for nonprofit organizations and Chair for a non-profit Board of Directors. She has traveled extensively throughout Asia, implementing learning environments for startup companies and coaching and consulting global organizations. Karen received her BSB degree from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.

What personal goals do you have yet to check off your list?
Return to the country of Colombia (the land and people are beautiful!), do a mission trip in South or Central America, finalize the adoption of my baby girl, and do another triathlon.

What personality traits do you think good leaders have?
Good leaders visualize the future, set goals, empower and motivate their teams. They communicate openly, honestly and clearly, and they're in it for the better of the organization and team instead of themselves.

Who is your idol? Why?
My mom – she has a healthy way of looking at life and living it fully. She loves to learn new new things, goes out of her way to help others and is a positive person. I respect her faith and her values.

What is your favorite color? What does it symbolize to you?
Orange – it's just so vibrant and positive, and a little off-the-wall. It's quirky.
